Project Shoptalk Initiative
Project Shoptalk Initiative, a program created by Hurston Institute for Learning & Development (HILD), is a partnership between HILD, Northwestern University, Digital Youth Network, and the University of Illinois. The purpose of this partnering consortium is to provide a dedicated and safe space for students to discover, develop, and showcase their academic interests and identities in their communities with classmates, friends, family, teammates, and friends nurtured by a village of parents, educators, learning specialists, and mentors. More specifically, our initiative is a collaboration of all stakeholders involved in a student’s life. We work together with students, families, and school entities including but not limited to the student’s teachers, counselors, and social workers. This group effort is tailored by HILD learning specialists in collaboration with the host school to individualize each student’s plan, adapting and combining academic goals with interpersonal effectiveness through the development of specified executive functioning and coping mechanism skills.
